What comes out of your mouth is more important than what goes into it.

Don't believe me? Let me explain...

FACT: Our bodies react to emotions, as the above temperature graphic demonstrates.

For every emotion, our body has a set reaction. The most numerous scientific studies are on the negative effects of stress on the body.

In a nutshell:

Stress = Inflammation
Inflammation = Disease, Slowing Down of Metabolic Processes, & Immune System

So when you say something negative (especially about yourself) you are creating stress and a chain reaction that can stop you from healing, losing weight, and thriving!

What's the solution?

As anyone knows who has worked with me, taking things away (including food) is not how I roll. Take something away and you'll want it or do it that much more! AND the added stress from deprivation and subsequent self reprimands completely screws us up!

(Ehem, this is particularly why diets DON'T work--because we always want what we can't have)

So, how does this apply to our thought process if we're trying to stay positive, and use healthy words versus self deprecating and mean ones?

It goes a little something like this:

"Ugh, my thighs look bad in these shorts."
"CANCEL. CANCEL. DELETE."
"I love that I have legs that support me and get me from place to place! Man, I am so glad that I can wear shorts in this heat. My butt looks great!"

You see, you can't stop the negative thoughts from happening BUT you can stop them from screwing you up mentally and physically by replacing it with positive feedback. It takes (on average) three positives to nullify a negative and put us back on the right track.

This is the crowding out method that I use in almost every facet of my life (including diet, thoughts, and habits).

Why this sudden interest in making sure we are all on a POSITIVITY DIET? Well, as an expectant mom with a tummy the size of a fish bowl, swelling legs and an overall different body than I've ever had, I making sure to keep things on a positive swing since any negative thoughts effect more than just me! AND I want to be a good example for my baby girl!
